Re: 1999 FORD FALCON XR6 Tickford , Genuine 79000km , FSH !!
Well, what do you know! I didn't realize most of them came out with cloth. Might leather have been an option on them? Wondering what the chances are that it's a once-off?
Someone told me once about a so called "All Blacks"- edition xr6, which had a few unique features. Don't know if a few were ever imported, and I guess if so, logic says that the paint job ought to be black.
I'm 29 now, was in high school when it was introduced. Think I'm the 3rd owner.
Man, of the few calls I've received, most of them want to use the car for towing. Really hope it escapes that fate. There's enough other 4.0 Falcons and Fairmonts for that. I'm guessing in a few years time the XR6 will become more collectable.
By the way, i did not receive a lot of feedback on the car. Am I aiming to high with my price, or is it just not that popular a car? Chances must be good that with the current petrol price people are steering clear of anything larger that a 2litre.

The car is nice, no doubts about that. You should get a feel for the market looking at other XR6's for sale. But most of them advertised have high milage.
As you say, maybe the high petrol price has something to do with it. If you are keen to sell the car make sure you advertise it on as many different magazines/websites as possible.
Good luck with the sale.

My honest oppinion to you, for what its worth.
1. Your are a tad high with the price, but do not drop to suddenly. I bought mine about a year ago at R52k, mines milage is much higher. Afriend of mine bought his for R70k about four years back with 70k kms.
2. Comparing as Daan memtioned is good, but you do not find many of this shape XR6"s for sale. There was a black one on gumtree a while ago.
3. The seats in my honest oppinion, must have been proffesionallly recovered by a previous owner for that luxury feel. Only the Fairmonts had leather seats from the factory and also not two tone.
4. Petrol consumption can be a bit of a draw back compared to the little Japscraps out there. As mentioned I use mine as daily transport because the kids and their luggage do not fit the little Escorts. Again driving style has alot to do here. My best in solid city driving was 7km/l and the worst 5 km/l. My trip in December to Cape Town and back at an average cruising 140-150km/h saw 9.5km/l but a recend trip to the Eastren Free State
At a steady 120km/h brought it up to 11 km/l.
Remember if there is a willing buyer out there it will sell, even at your current price. Then again if you do not really need the money keep it. Its in pretty good shape, and with what will you replace it at R70k. Its not a guzzler use for longer trips otherwise park it, in Afrikaans they say "Hy vreet nie voer nie" meaningit does not cost you money to keep it.
But thats me, I cannot sell a car.....

Nice looking car there.
I've tried several times to get ahold of the owner without success.
Anyone know if it is still available?

Tickford edition came with special 2-tone leather seats, AFAIK.

Well, I am not going to say its not so. The Tckford XR6's I have seen never had leather seats or two-tone leather seats.
Maybe in this case it was a special option or a previous owner had it re-upholstered ib two-tone leather.

Are you maybe thinking of the Ford Tickford Experience FTE ? The FTE-T series TE50 or TS50 that Tickford made, used partly assembled Falcon and Fairmont bodied cars and did their magic on these cars, like AMG does for Mercedes. They upgraded the engine brakes, suspension, interior and tires.Maverick wrote:Tickford edition came with special 2-tone leather seats, AFAIK.
The XR series still had their engines hand built by Tickford but they did not touch anything else including the interior.
I doubt it is a FTE series car. So I would have to think it was a special order as both grey interior colour options where available but I have never seen them combined together as a 2tone.
Hot rodders recycle, where's those prius' going when the greenies have a new fad.

I seriously doubt that the leather is aftermarket. It's exactly the same kind (colour and texture) as in the Fairmonts and the fitment is too good to be anything other than factory. The creases and slight scuffing also indicates that it was probably fitted since new. There's too few Tickfords imported to make the assumption that ALL of them had cloth interior. Fords have always had long option lists, I mean, look at the vast multitude of tiny variations on the old Cortina XR6's and 3.0S's. Absolutely allsorts! Why not leather in my Falcon? Maybe I should visit a dealer, that should settle if it was an option or could have been a special order.
Sorry if I'm hard to get a hold of, I'm working hard on my tan in Ballito. My mobile phone is with me most of the time so feel free to give me a ring (0823923232). If anyone's interested, we can arrange a viewing after the 11th of April when I'll be back from my vacation.
