He's a 1972 Escort 1600, and we shall name him 'Skortie! I don't care what you think, he has a name now

To me it is strange how some people refer to their cars as either he or she, mine are all
ladies. I think because they are temperamental?

Thanks I think in part it's because 'It' is such an impersonal word, and for someone who cares for his/her car, that just won't do. Why it ends up being a boy or a girl, I just don't know
He's even got that 'old' car smell

He won't fit on the shelf though!

He needs a new battery, tried to start him up today, dood soos 'n ou mossie. Refilled the battery, charged it, but to no avail So no joyrides today!
MO for now seems to be 1) New battery; 2) figure out what the guy has changed mechanically and electronically; 3) Fix his screw-ups found in 2... That should keep me busy for some time.

At least the bodywork doesn't seem to have been messed about with, that's the hardest to sort out.
Love the red and I have a set of those Smiths Cyclones in the garage also. Suit the car well.
I have my eye on a Beige 4 door that's been sitting outside this old persons house unused for a couple of years now. I'm tempted to try make an offer on it.
The 4 doors are starting to get saught after now the 2 doors are getting more hard to find.

Just wrote a whole essay on him, and poof! All the words magically vanish!

A lot of the smaller interior trim's missing or damaged, but the important things are there. Rear seat bench is loose, will have a look at that later.
Exterior cosmetics are in need of some TLC, a few scratches and small dents, and that hole in the bonnet that I cannot fathom a reason for
Dynamo's been chucked in favour of an altenator. Curious: Are the voltage stabilisers for the dynamo and the gauges not two seperate units? I'm wondering, 'cause the fuel gauge seems to be faulty as an electronic one's been added below it.
Underneath those horrible covers most of the seats are in pretty good nick, even the roof trim's relatively decent.
I'm not a fan of that 'Playstation' steering wheel, but it's small; which is a good thing, seeing's I'm not
Gearknob's a cheap, loose-fitting item, will have to replace that too. And it needs a radio.
That rod that usually keeps the bonnet from clonking you on the head, is missing. Wooden replacement will do for now.
The wiring's terribly messy all over, the previous owner seems to like messing with wires. I don't. But they'll need sorting, inevitably.
He also cut the heater pipes. Need to figure out why and where to reconnect them.
New shocks at the back are a good thing. That spare wheel showing through, isn't. That's the worst of the rust I can find. The spot under the spare is rusted through. Also need to fabricate a new 'cover' for behind the fueltank.
All the glass bits are in great shape, however. As is the dashboard.
Another question: Is the coil supposed to sit way down there?
And as I said, that battery will be replaced ASAP. Along with the (wrong way 'round) homemade battery clamp..
Oversized 'zhorst tip makes for good noises...and yes, those Cyclone wheels are AWESOME

The cosmetics will have to wait until all the more important bits are sorted.
