Would rather have bought Dr G's old Elcamino, this one for a stock motor and drivetrain is in my opinion a quite expensive.

That is the problem with customising You will never get your money back. Keep vehicle in original condition and you make more!!

What is your location ? I know of a few complete motors and gearboxes for sale at good prices .
