The 'strengthening required' is a bit of a myth: Team Gunston Z181 and A2 are both 4 cyl shells - still going strong 40 racing year later. Z181 has suffered some fatigue cracking in the firewall. Peranaman's car is also a 4 cyl shell.Johann65 wrote:Take a look at the difference between the Perana and Your 2000Gt with regard to the strengthening of the front chassis and body. My mate Piet is also busy fitting a V8 to a Capri. Good luck with the project. Go follow Peranaman's postings.
Production Peranas were same as 3000 XL with the addition of the strut top stenthening. The strut top stenthening plates are a standard Ford part fitted in some markets. I have a German Cologne built Mk1 1600 shell that has the exact same plates as a Perana.
A Perana's front cross member is arguably less strong the than the standard one. Engine cross member is the same, just steering rack mountings moved.
If it was me I would just get the strut top strengthening plates and be done with it.
