A DAY AT THE RACES - IN OUDTSHOORN

Post by 993 Kadett » Wed 06 Apr 2011, 10:38

Hello Guys,...Was chatting to a friend of mine over the weekend who convinced me to send in this story of a day at the races in Oudtshoorn in 1974. Written a number of years ago I managed to upset a few if my old BMC buddies so... I warn you that sensitive BMC/Mini supporters may be offended by the content so parental guidance is advised. The content is however, factual, and therefore I have taken the chance to send it anyway....I did say at the outset of my scribblings that my version of the old days may be just a little different to that which is popularly understood....? Brilliant, you must send it in to Classic and Performance Car Africa mag, I can send you the editors email address if you need?
That's how I roll. Down the hill 'cause the car won't start and the brakes don't work.

A great story and some good descriptions of how things were done back then . The Opel is a stalwart in the small motor class , i have a Opel Combo 1400 as a delivery vehicle and would buy another when the time comes , just sad to see that the new Opels are being badged with a bow tie and not the lightning bolt .

Somehow I downloaded the file of part one to my downloads. I thought it was a download of a Queen album, but after I opened it and read it, I searched the www with google and found part two on AMC forum of all places. Might be something like " deur die k...".

Anyway, I realy enjoyed the story and will read the rest of 993 Kadett's posts later.

He does mention about ebooks with other stories. Any body knows if it was done and where to read it.

Now you all can appreciate what happened at GM Product engineering Us and Ford and the things that took place.
That is why the Opel Rekord with the 2.5 Mckinnon conversion in 1965/66 is special! There are Old folk members that may remember what took place and some memories!! There was a Raubenheimer that raced a 64/65 Rekord. Would love to hear his story!
