Re: Content: Ford Sierra XR8
Thanks for the post Firenza. I wish I was part of thread, I am confused now about the perana plates. Now that you mention it, all the "fakes" I saw were numbers below 190. I might have lost out on a few peranas because of that. I wish we could get Basil Green on the forum to sort it out.
There is some nice info on there about checking for originality on XR8s as well.
Thanks!
Tiaan

Firenza V8: I stand corrected, havent looked at my plate for a while I also beleive there was a - i.e 10-71 on all the plates.
I know which site you are talking about and honestly I think some people go to far and one tends to close ones eyes a bit and loose site of facts. I also have a problem with the accusations that are made on that website.
Hi Firenza,
Thanks for some very interesting reading material with regard to BG plates. I am glad it is sorted out. I have also turned away from a perana deal due to the"manufactured by" thing. It was very confusing at the time and after some very heated debates, I stopped visiting the forum. Pitty I didn't know about it earlier, because I posted the V6 Perana plates. Still got them. It seems that after BG moved from his Jhb site to Edenvale, the plates also changed. Now I'm speculating again...please ignore
My mk 2 Cortina Perana has the same plates as Alan Poulters. Had a long chat with him at Zwartkops and learned some interesting things about the Cortina Perana.

Ps.
Forgot to mention...welcome to this forum.
I have followed the Can Am debate with great interest and I hope you bring CPT V8 with you to this forum. I have learned to respect his knowledge over a period of time.

Yes 351 that was the problem it caused paranoia. I was horrified to see this and felt "cheated" if you know what I mean. But soon we learned that there were a whole load of others in fact every one except the person that said this (BG 13) which was worded as Commisioner Street adress I think he said.
Well although I did feel intimidated by being threatened with legal action regarding the "crap" I postred I hold no grudges. What is important is that we checked information thoroughly and then placed it on the table to come to a consensus. otherwise this thing about the "fraud" would have stuck and undermined the dignity of many who have before September 1971 Perana's.
For me I learned more in those few days that I have known for years. And I have still plenty more to learn.

Agreed, after all that aggression I withdrew from all forums but for reading. Just recently joined this forum again. Great bunch of guys..and a Lady! with a wealth of information.
Just hope that not too many people got rid of their "fake" cars.

ZA perana, I didnt mean cars with numbers below 190 are fakes, I meant cars with numbers below 190 and different plates now seem to NOT be fakes. If it is true I will have to kick myself for losing out on good cars.

Thats the problem when mis-information spreads, enthusiasts loose out on good cars, arguably in my opinion the 1970 cars are among the best, after all it was in 1970 that the Z181 racing Perana won 10 of 11 races.....

Yes the "contraversial" Perana's ! I would expect that post on the Capri Perana site to be amended as last I saw it was till there. What happens now ?
This is the problem in ZA, things can be printed in National puplications and people read it and say nothing. Years down the line this text gets refered to plus the information becomes so emphatic it's almost like a religious issue. The level of reporting in some puplications is beginning to become very poor. And surpising the editors are not exactly substandard. Hence these sources of miss-information should begin to know there are some people out there with average IQ's and it won't be worth their while punting information without douing their homework. many of us have gathered info through many years, much reading, experiences and all that. There's no short cut, or at least the short cuts are this noinsense that gets printed sometimes.
