Opel Rekord 2.0lt AC Schnitzer

Post by steven7389 » Sat 22 Feb 2020, 11:41

Good day African Muscle Car Members

I'd like to know more about this particular vehicle,
the Opel Rekord 2.0lt with a Schnitzer kit of which l have no photographic proof of but l might in the not so distant future from the original owner.

Now to the very few (myself included) this was a vehicle which l remember from back in the early to late 80's up until the early 2000's.

The cars that defined that era were the Cortina's, Escorts, Mini's and Fiats and the Chev Chevairs and Opel Kadetts which fell under the English brand called the Vauxhall.

Now a real gentleman from our district, superfit (Comrades runner) and super personality, named Ronnie purchased this vehicle new in a cream colour in the 80'S.
She looked like the base model of Opel Rekord but had the bumpers, side skirting and if l can remember a set of mag wheels and the AC Schnitzer sticker (decal) emblem on the bootlid.

Beautifully kept in a two car garage for years (nobody accept Ronnie drove that car) , until a van carrying logs, of which one of them became unhitched, and fell onto the highway.

Alas it being a winter evening with heavy precipitation, and the added bonus of horendous visibility, Ronnie tried to avoid an unavoidable impact with said timber, but ultimately had to climb over the log and damage the vehicles suspension, the front end and most of the undercarriage including the rims and rear bumper.

With hope and dreams all lost and she sitting battered and bruised in a well kept oil-free floor garage, Ronnie decided to sell one of his beloved possessions.
The car has been lost to memories of a bygone era but every now and then when l do chance to walk past a certain property l look at a closed garage and remember fondly of the Opel Rekord 2.0lt AC Schnitzer.

This vehicle or the memory of this vehicle has brought me here to my fellow members of the group and pledging to them to devote their time and efforts to assist with a few photos, stories or technical details of this sometimes forgotten gem from my past and maybe a not so forgotten gem of your life, because l have searched the social media albeit half-heartedly but l haven't found a model quite like this on the web of information and technology.

Maybe it's my lack of knowledge about this vehicle that has stumped the information process but any advice on this vehicle would be extremely grateful.

Yours sincerely

I think you mean the Rekord Imscher.

These are very rare, the last one I saw was being sold in a scrap yard in JHB. The body kit was unique and has a very different front to the regular opel. The engine was also slightly modified with a different cam shaft and in the day there was a some ECU tuning I think.

There was also a Kadett version but I have never seen one in person.
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged

Wait not for tomorrow to do what can be done today, live each day for one knows not what the next day may hold.
