Capri 3.0 v6 diff upgrade

Post by imperishable capri » Thu 25 Apr 2019, 01:18

Dear all, my name is Spha Hadebe, i am new to the forum. I would like to ask for some advice from the forum members. I have a Capri 3.0 v6 with a lexus 1uzfe engine. I broke the 3.0 diff twice and would like your advice/ help regarding an upgrade to this diff to take the v8 punch. I am based in Vanderbijlapark, the car is currently in KZN. Many thanks, S Hadebe

Good day, hope u are well.

I am building a Mk2 Ford Escort with the very same engine.

U will break that 3.0 diff time and again.
Just an idea!
I would go for an M75 diff, they are the width of your car, and needs minor changes.
Go and google or knock on a local scrapyard,s door, but PLEASE make sure the buy this cash and not on the internet, i have an R7500 diff running in another car paid fully.

Regards
Pieter

Hello Sir,

Thank you for your reply & recommendation, i checked local scrapyard and found an old Isuzu M75 diff 4.0 ratio, seem to be non LSD, they are asking for R4000. Would this be a suitable one?

Kind regards,
Spha

4.0 ratio is not suitable for a v8

Good day fellow AMC followers.

What I have recently noticed is an increase in use of the gearmax m89 diff in performance applications. This is due to the fact that it is a dana44 copy, and almost all d44 30 spline parts fit directly into these diffs. That opens the market up to many different ratios and locking options. I understand that even the aftermarket diff covers for the d44 fit directly. These have been used in jeeps, older fords etc for years. The m89 is found on many late model bakkies, ford ranger,Isuzu dmax, Toyota raider, Nissan hardbody. If strength and reliability worries you, consider the fact that the dodge viper was fitted from the factory with d44.

Hello Sir,

Thank you for such a detailed recommendation. This really opens up more options to be explored...sent an enquiry to my local gearmax, I look forward to hear if they have dana44/ m89 diffs. Another gear/ bearings supplier has a complete M80 with a 4.62 ratio for R11K.

Kind regards,
Spha

My local gearmax quoted me about R20 000 for change to an M75 diff 8O 8O 8O . Or rebuild my current diff with new center for about R11K. Had no options as the diff was already removed, I repaired the current diff. :(
