Skortie - '79 Escort - The Adventure Continues

Post by Dragonkarr » Mon 25 Sep 2017, 20:20

Skortie & I have been busy... But at the moment he's struggling with major oil leaks and a short that's draining the battery; all this after we had the whole engine out and swapped his gearbox for another (chomped the syncro's to bits).
Thinking of saving up for an aluminium valve cover, his somehow got bent and is now gushing out oil at the back.
Sump's also pushing out oil at a silly rate now. In my defense this time it wasn't me who changed those gaskets
After reassembling everything and buying a new battery we realized something's draining the battery literally within an hour or two. Still need to find the cause for this.
And the replacement gearbox is a Sport 'box, so now I need to get a different gearlever as the regular 'box's lever doesn't fit on the Sport 'box. Ironic, as they look almost identical.

Well, here are some photos of some of our little adventures. I love this little car!

Check your fusebox and look for connections that are live and throws a spark! I had a solenoid that was live and drained the battery!
Look for wiring that does not belong! I threw a bunch of wiring out!!

Not sure how or if this applies to our classics. I had a Jetta 4 years ago that drained the battery quickly. Turned out to be a faulty alternator.

Throw out the wiring that does not look original! You'll be surprised. Groete

If you see what the previous owner did to his wiring... I really need to just replace the whole harness. It's a mess.

Get hold of a color coded wiring diagram for the Escort. Will save you a lot of Mandelas!
