Ford Cortina 5 Speed Gear Box
Ford Cortina 5 Speed Gear Box
Hey all, got a quick one for all our resident gurus.
Ford Leisure came out out with a FORD 5 Speed gearbox.
What is the name of that gear box and what did it look like, cause so many guys have them with toyota Cressida boxes.
i want to get more info on the actual FORD box, so when i upgrade my 4 speed to a 5 i use the right Ford box.
i found this one being sold as a Ford Cortina box - 5 speed

Re: Ford Cortina 5 Speed Gear Box
The gearbox in the advertisement is called a Ford "Type 9", it is the 5-speed gearbox that was used factory fitted to 3L V6 Cortina bakkies, Sierra/Sapphire and Courier bakkies.
The Type 9 in standard configuration is not a good match to the Essex V6, and often give problems, which is why the Toyota 21R gearbox conversion were so popular. I believe upgrade kits to a Ford/Borg Warner T5 gearbox were available from Ford, but they are hard to find, and generally the 21R are known to be even tougher.
I would only convert a Essex V6, to a Type 9 gearbox, if it is a concourse restoration, or perhaps could afford a Quaife gearset.

Interesting enough in around 1983 Ford brought out a Cortina Bakkie fitted with the T5....IndianaJones wrote: ↑Sun 02 Jul 2017, 12:40The gearbox in the advertisement is called a Ford "Type 9", it is the 5-speed gearbox that was used factory fitted to 3L V6 Cortina bakkies, Sierra/Sapphire and Courier bakkies.
