Ford Falcon XH Ute
Ford Falcon XH Ute
Hi Guys
I recently came into the possession of the vehicle in the title.
In case you are confused, it is the 1996-1999 Ford Ranchero that was built in OZ & sold in SA.
Specifically, a 1997 4.0 inline 6 with a column shift 4 speed auto.
It has been a minor project getting things running.
It seems it was sitting under a guy's tree in Durban and wasn't attended to.
I have had it about a month or so.
It needed/I have done:
spark plug's
oil & filter
fuel filter
cleaned Idle speed control valve
replaced cluster bulbs
repaired fuel pump relays
repaired bonnet release
etc etc
I have found a guy in Ct who has spares available.
I bought with no owner's manual or service book.
There is a lot of info on these vehicles on Australian forums.
I was wondering if any member here had an owners manual or service book so that i could could the South African relevant info on it.
For instance did they have an LSD?
Mine doesn't seem to have as it only leaves 1's not 11's.
Pics to follow.
Thanks.

The "Outback" version you have, should be fitted with a Hydratrak diff, look it up on the Aussie forums. It is a type of LSD, using a sealed viscous coupling, for lack of better explanation.

If it doesn't spin both wheels then it obviously isn't working?

As far as I know the UTE in SA never got an LSD, the sedan XR6 did though, I had a 1998 XR6 was an awesome car.
I think that outback is a nice bakkie though, there was also an XR6 version sold here in SA

I changed the diff oil last night. Definitely no LSD action. I will send pics later.

As far as I'm aware the Hydratrak unit is a sealed unit within the diff, containing it's own fluid, changing the diff oil would not affect it's performance. But that would be if your Ranchero still has the Hydratrak diff fitted. Neither do I know, whom would be able to fix it.
