Porsche 928

Post by Burnthosetyres » Thu 25 Aug 2016, 06:52

We all know how Porsches have escalated in value over the last 2 years, gone crazy, any Turbo sells for big Amo. What I don't get is the 928 is still cheap as chips. In their day, when they were launched they were technologically advanced and very expensive cars, if memory served they cost more than a 911. Why haven't they escalated or are they maybe next to climb?

You can buy good clean examples for R150 to R180k but a clapper 911 is 400 plus??

i think they will start climbing soon....the 911s are so expensive, that they will 'pull' the 928s up in price. I have always liked them, especially the later ones. Bought a nice 1 yesterday - but with a 'real' engine fitted :D

I think the problem the 928 has is many have been poorly maintained and suffer huge deferred maintenance. The other problem is they are super complicated to work on and perhaps the third issue is the V8 needs cambelts changed and anyone who has seen how the engine fits into the bay will see this is by no means an easy task.

that all depends on which version you end up with, I find the Kjetronic version much more reliable and simple than the LH injection version. the rest of the electrics are reasonable and similar to mercedes of the same era.

They are going to escalate like crazy in the next year. You're in the last few months of getting them for a deal.

Congrats Gunter,

The prudes...I mean the purists...are going to hang you by your fingernails...

Anyhow, what gearbox was used behind the LS ?

Pieter.

PS. You don't have a Chevy engine for sale, by any chance ?

yep....a purist would have a heart attack! - runs the porsche box. 928/944 LS v8 conversions seem very popular in the USA...couple of companies(Renegade is 1 of the more well known ones) specialize in selling kits for these conversions. Got no chevy motors for sale
