Re: '79 Escort - Finally!
I've been neglecting the forums I used to frequent. I know I know, Bad Karr!
Skortie's been through a lot, refurbished distributor, new stickers, blew a head gasket... Then the place that skimmed the head for me left heaps of sand in the holes where the tappit cover screws go - which inevitably stripped some thread and caused many French words to be spoken
Currently the injury from the Witbank Pothole incident a while back is starting to play up - front left suspension is showing signs of "sagging".
On a lighter note, I finally have a Haynes workshop manual for him!
Some random photos from these past months:

Re: '72 Escort - Finally!
Just a little update: Skortie has made a new friend at a recent show - a white Sport. I've befriended the owner and have helped him a few times working on another Escort of his. He has about thirteen (yes!) Escorts lying around his parents' farm just outside of town. Some nearly stripped bare for parts. Some are beyond saving and others are in line to get saved eventually...
With his first visit to the farm, Skortie was treated to minor surgery. He ended up with:
*A new (Correct!) fuel tank;
*Original GL steering wheel;
*Steering column plastics that weren't wrecked like the old ones;
*His original fuel gauge now works;
*Wiper switch on steering column (where it should be!) - and they work correctly!;
*Two less oddball wires lying around.
Now he's a bit sick though. We need a new fuel pump and will get a new filter along with it too. Turns out the pickup in his tank was wrong - he'd act empty but in fact would be far from it! We got out about three times as much fuel from his old tank than I'd expected to have in there. So technically he also left with 'more' fuel than he had before.

I need to find a farm who has 13 Manta's lying arround
It great to find those parts you have been looking for such a long time especially those small things that makes the car more complete and original (although a fuel tank is quite a big thing )

Re: '72 Escort - Finally!
It's quite the sight - they're scattered all over the yard. Lots of Mk1 & 2s, two or so newer ones... Most recent acquisition's a ghastly green Mk1 that got rear-ended by a truck. It still drives finebarrydorr wrote:13Dragonkarr wrote: He has about thirteen (yes!) Escorts lying around his parents' farm just outside of town. Some nearly stripped bare for parts. Try driving your shiny new Fiesta after a truck hit it from behind...

Some images of Skortie's adventures of late. From haulin' speakers & go-karts, to late night packing for road trips to Jhb...
Currently he's standing with some major oil leak issues after a bit of TLC... replaced gaskets, etc, but somethin' ain't right

Real nice car,
Loving those pics, as well as some serious respect to you on keeping her on the road.
Four dours have always had a charm on their own, well to me anyway. They unlike the Sport 2door models which always had the racey pretensions.
Personally I like to keep the family looking sleeper look and all the modern tech under the skin,
Original beadings and overriders are scarce but keep the look.
Well done again !

Four doors mean easy rear seat access - and all that. You know... Hahaha. Gotta start serious work on him now though, all the previous owner's 'shortcuts' are catching up on us. I don't care for showroom perfect, this is a car meant to be driven!
