351 Cleveland versus 351M identification

Post by hotrodr » Mon 13 Jul 2015, 19:49

Hi could someone possibly help me - I have a bought an80's Bronco and was wanting to know if it was a 351 Cleveland or a 351 M motor - apparently they came spec'd with the 351M but it was sold to me as a 351C and was wanting to know if there was any easy ways to tell the diff visually without having to pull it apart .

Thank you in advance

If the distributor mounting hole is even with the front mounting surface of the intake manifold, then you have a 351C. If the mounting hole is deeper into the block, then it is a 351M. The front inner corners of the cylinder heads are also raised above the distributor hole on the M vs the C.

Cleveland spares will sell pretty fast if you can't use them ....

AFAIK the 351M/400M has the bigblock bolt pattern on the bellhousing.
