Ok i think its time for an update on my project.. Things have been going slow but its getting there. was struggling to find a bonnet and the one i had was simply to bad to fix. so i ended up doing what you guys said i shouldn't do. I got a flat bonnet and transferred the hump from my bonnet to the flat one. I also didn't like the piece that was missing on my bonnet so i decided to weld it shut and make it look like the other type. I'm sorry if i disappoint some of you with the decision that i took but for me this was the best solution.

here are some photos

I had a problem with the bonnet hinges. they were badly bent and the only way to get them straight again was to cut open the top en work from there:

another problem that i discovered was behind the fenders at the bottom was a lot of rust so i grinded that off and welded some new metal to that. later on closed up the fender. (some lak of photos here sorry)

now to the bonnet..... here is my old bonnet with hump removed

busy welding....

fitting the bonnet.. took a while but got it lined up in the end

and after quite some boddy work this is where i'm at now.

only problem now is that i'm gonna be stuck for some time now.. my turbo on my polo TDI packed up a week ago. cost me 7000 to get it fixed and the guys where i took it to did not install it properly and could not fix the problem.. they said my computer has to be re-programed and its gonna cost me 3000 rand.. me knowing a bit about cars told the guy that that is a bulshit story and that he should fix the problem .. i ended up taking the car to bosch.. they fixed the problem in one day since the only problem was that the vacuum pipes were connected incorrectly. .. but what the guys from bosch also said is that the reason my turbo went is because there is diesel in my oil.. so they are now busy putting new seals on my injectors.. everything costing a lot of money.. :? spent all my capri savings on my polo now

but anyways let me know what you guys think of the progress ;)

Hi Ibanez, Nice work man, the bonnet looks really good.

The bottom of the 'A' pillars is famous for rusting as Ford didn't leave enough of a gap with the wing bottoms and becomes a trap for mud.

Keep up the good work.

thanks guys :D
i´m putting in a lot of work this month, wanna get the body ready for paint. i´m finished with filler now, so gonna start with spot putty now and sanding the ms to get it 100% flat..

think the next update will be as soon as the last layer of primer is on :D.

2 things i need to know:
-how hard is it to get the bonnet lettering ? if to hard to get i´ll just close the hols.
-will the bullet mirrows fit into the holes of the origenal mirrows ?

last thing is i want to make the car orange with the black perana stripes. gonna use base and clear not 2k.. what do u guys think ? what orange tone should i make it ?

Hi Ibanez,

I've have a set of reproduction letters that I got on Ebay Uk. They are made in Poland and look very good quality but they're not as shiny as the OE ones as they are aluminium and have no tages but have double sided tape.
I also have a set of OE ones in good condition but some of the tags are broken off which is a common problem when removing them without care. They are the lower ones in the pic.

The problem with mirrors is they are made by different manufacturers these days so may differ when it comes to the bolt centers. Mine are 50mm as in the pic. It would be best to buy some now and then check the holes. Also I believe the passenger side one is just for show as it can't be swung in enough to see out of. Just heard this as I don't have one on my car yet.

Ok, where are you in S.A.? I have a friend coming over to Cape Town later in the month and could bring a set of letters over for you. You decide which set you would prefer and they're yours, gratis. :D

If you're not in the Cape area do you have someone we could pass them to or would one of the forum members like to offer a hand? You would then just need to arrange to get them from there.

Cheers

Looking good. I have been following this thread with great interest as I myself was busy with a Capri V8 project. I since sold it and I believe the car is up and running somewhere in western Cape area.
Keep up the good work and keep on posting progress pics.

Do you have a good front grille?
What about the perana radiater, do you have one?
