Has some time to work on the wet sanding before colour on the car over the weekend, but had to keep the kids occupied as well. Worked out well!

Also found out why the car was shifting like a dog! hehe

Hi All,

After a lot of time spent on preparing my XLE I decided to DO IT!

This is by no means a professional job and I have some small issues I will fix later, but I did it myself and its my choice and I love the outcome!

Prepped for colour!

Colour and Clear coat done.

Next Day Baking in the sun she looks so shiny.

I tried a gold powder in the clear and I managed to make some lines in the clear coat, will flat and redo to get an even layer of gold on the car.

Any comment welcome!

Thanks!
Johan

I love that colour. Well done on doing the job yourself.

I paid to have my paint job done and I must say there were more than a few issues, so you can feel very proud of what you have done. In the process i'm sure you learnt a lot as well....for the next one

Beautiful project! Gonna be a real fun car to drive when she's done. What gearbox are you running?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I am an accountant during working hours so this is all a learning experience but I have fixed and worked on all the cars and bikes I have owned myself and I at least know what has been done to my cars and if something breaks or goes wrong it is all my fault, haha!

Mustang Sally the car will be running its original engine and gearbox, 3l V6 with a 4 speed Bullet gearbox.

All the work up to know has take more time than money, but I am afraid that is in reverse know! More money needed than time!

Will keep the updates as they happen!

Ok so after a week of letting the car dry and cure I started to do the final flat for the final clear coat.

Surprise, Surprise the clear coat is just a coating of orange peal, so I have started the flat process to get a smooth as possible base, putting on another layer of blue and then I will do the clear coat over, without the orange peal effect, hopefully!

Think it was lack of knowledge, to thick clear coat and not enough air pressure through the spray gun.

Second time lucky!

Ok so after the school fees paid, I redid the spray work on the car on Saturday. Came out a lot better.
Before the clear coat.
