looking for a power assisted RHD Steering box

Post by GT 351 V8 » Mon 22 Aug 2011, 00:09

Hi, I am looking for a power assisted right-hand drive steering box for my '57 GMC stepside pickup? Have the original suspension on the vehicle.
Any leads/ suggestions from forum members?
Thanks

Hi Ahamed, it is better to fit a "real" power steering box. Take a few pictures and see if we can help.

Perhaps a Left Hand Drive 1968+ Chevy C series unit mounted on the RH frame rail? Note they are mounted on the outside of the LH frame rail with the mtg lugs facing towards the right. :)

Ahmed, alternatively you can fit an electric steering column to a manual steering box. Lots of modern hatchback style cars have them. Two that come to mind are Toyota Yaris and Opel Corsa (Corsas here in UK at any rate, not sure about ZA)

Thanks for the advice ZA. Will certainly check it out.
ps: my Perana is featured in the August issue of Classic Ford.
Another AMC forum member in the UK (Paul) alerted me to it. :D

I seem to recall a Merc E class a few models back - slanted over headlights - has a rhd power box.
