Hi
I bought a Chev SS 3 years ago, the previous owner removed all the tags when he resprayed the car. When I bought he car it was still all in parts and the owner promised the papers and tags. 3 years later he is not taking my calls anymore and also never at home when I go for a visit! So now I am sitting with a problem of not being able to register the car. I know I should have waited for the papers before I paid, and this might become an expensive learning curve!
So now I am hoping that the chassis/body might be stamped with the VIN number, at least then I have a starting point. I have looked but can't find any, so now I am wondering was the cars ever stamped and if yes then where did they do it.
Cheers
Pieter

Sorry mate, no body stamps on the SS as far as I am aware.

Re: Chev SS VIN locations
Hey Pieter
I'm also doing a resto on an SS.
Look on the floor under the front passenger seat for a small plate about 8cm by 4cm which will have a six digit number stamped into it. The plate is spot welded onto the floor.
You'll probably have to search a bit as it's been there for about forty years and has loads of crap built up over it. Mine was covered in glue and horse hair but it should definitely be there.
You can actually re-reg the car but it takes some time and a friend in the municipality.
Let me know if you find it ok?
