Re: BMW e30 320i project.
So I have two wheel options so far, I think I prefer the Work Equip rep wheels to the Alpina rep wheels but not decided yet. Lowering springs have arrived but not had the time to fit them yet.

New heated leather seats from an e36 collected from London to replace the knackered Silver Grey cloth interior.

Second hand grey carpet to be dyed black and replacement boot carpet set. All nicely cleaned ready for the dye when I'm off work on Tuesday.

Re: BMW e30 320i project.
The boot was a bit of a mess with gravel and oil spilt in the spare wheel well and side compartments so needed to get it cleaned up before fitting the carpets.

Looks much better now but have found a little rust hole in the right hand side compartment. This is apparently a common rust area as dirt and moisture get trapped on the underside between this and the rear valence. Both are rusted in this case.

The Bm is in an awesome condition. Personally, I always prefer the 5 spoke mags and your cabbie looks good with the 5 spoke. The seats also look cool. "Like they grew there"
was it a big mod to fit?

Re: BMW e30 320i project.
Hi Mark, thanks, the car is in very good condition for a UK car.
It has been Waxoiled (early in it's life I would guess) so it has virtually no rust. Just the bit in the boot as far as I have been able to find.
I have checked all the panels with a magnet and there is no filler anywhere.
The front e36 seat rails are further apart so I will have to make some new mountings but it won't be a difficult job. The rears are normally fold down like a hatch back car so will need to have some new mounts for the bottom pins and some 'T' brackets for the top latches.

Re: BMW e30 320i project.
I remember very well when the 3 series BMW were introduced in the RSA.
One of the members in our lift club at the time bought a two door 320.
The smooth silky six impressed me to such an extent that I later bought my first
525 and to this day I only buy BMW 5 series with the proven six cylinders. At present I am
at BMW number 5, if I am not mistaken.
We have just returned from a long tour with my wife's X3, also fitted with the 6 pot (200kw)
and irrespective of main tarred roads, rough gravel roads, mountain passes,it is surefooted and a pleasure to
drive.
Congratulations with your red 320. Those cars are without a doubt tomorrows' collectables. As
other forum members have allready indicated here, very few survived due to hammering and misuse
of that lovely cars.
Keep us posted re the work on your BMW and put the 320 (i) emblem on the boot.
Regards
Johan

Re: BMW e30 320i project.
Thank you Johan, you are right the motor runs very smoothly and sounds great.
Although the car is in good shape generally there are quite a few jobs that need doing to get it up to scratch and I will be posting as I go along.
There is a huge following for these e30's here in the UK and there is even a racing series for them. I plan to go up to Thruxton (closest track to me) when the car is done and maybe do a track day just for fun.
There are also a few forums dedicated to the e30, here and in the states.

Re: BMW e30 320i project.
This is a great project, the E30's are such good cars, with awesome racing pedigree, and it's no wonder they are so popular. Please keep us updated on the progress, including track pics.
I've been patiently waiting for a certain 4-door E30 to become available myself, but it might still take a few years.
