68 Mustang Notchback
Hi Guys
We have been busy on the 68 Coupe for a while now and I thought I'd share some pics of the progress.
She was a 6 Cylinder that we sourced in the US with a good body and relatively little rust. She's not a matching numbers car and we are modifying quite a lot of her:
- Converting to RHD
- 351 Cleveland with stage 2 cam
- Edelbrock carb
- Heidts suspension
- Power steering
- Wilwood brakes, etc
Ergo: Not one for the purists, but definitely one for the enthusiasts!!
This is where it all began:

She went to Durban for the Right Hand Drive conversion and some of the preliminary body work.
Happy days when we could load her for the trip up to Joburg.

Re: 68 Mustang Notchback
The Heidts suspension allowed us to get rid of the shock towers and this gives lots of wriggle room in the engine bay.
Notice the front placed power steering.
Heidts warned us that we would not be able to fit a Cleveland 351 with their suspension.
They were only partially right! Nog nie gehoor van Boer maak 'n Plan nie!!

Re: 68 Mustang Notchback
Getting the steering linkage right wasn't too much of a problem.
Stay tuned to see how you squeeze a 351 Cleveland in over a Heidts suspension!

Howzit!
Nice project - I already miss my 'stang back in Germany as I've got a looooong way still to go.
Say, is it still the case that one has to convert to RHD when importing to SA?
Lastly, I'm assuming you will be using a shorter oil filter - that area looks very tight

Re: 68 Mustang Notchback
Apparently there is a 1965 rule, however it seems the people that know about it, is quite stingy on the details, as it does not seem to be public knowledge.V8 fan wrote:Say, is it still the case that one has to convert to RHD when importing to SA?

Could be that you might bring your 65 Stang, as is.

Re: 68 Mustang Notchback
Thanks V8F.
Yeah, filter is a bit of a tight fit so we'll use a remote filter. Nice thing about moving the motor back is that we've got Oodles of space up front.
I'm quite curious to see what the effect on handling will be with most of the weight now behind the cross member.
