Looking good! Tip for storing: Lightly oil, wrap them in Cling-film, and bag them in a Zip Lock bag. Prevents oxidation of unpainted areas until you fit them. ;)

Roti is bakgat! I sommer replaced the square tube with a flatter section and used a longer bolt with the nut on the inside. Welding se gat.

Speaking of which, I need to save up for proper welding equipment.... I'm R11K down on a security + camera system this month thanks to my crazy dingbat neighbour.

(Long story! Going to court next Wednesday!)

I need to decide whether to buy a larger compressor so I can use a needle scaler and air tools, or have the underbody sandblasted....

Hi MT,

On the carb well done!! They look Awesome!!

Did you soak the carbs in the HCI solution or just brushed it clean?

I need to clean the two 38's for my fordjie and that looks like the way I want them cleaned

Thanks

I first used oom Johann's detergent method. Boiling water in a bucket, wrapped with a blanket. They slept like that overnight. In the morning, I scrubbed them in the same solution. The amount of kak that came off them beggars belief.
Then rinsed and dried them and climbed in with carb cleaner, toothbrush, earbuds and toothpicks. Gave them another soapy scrub. Buuut...

They still looked like kak. That was when the pool acid was brought out. A litre of it to a bucket of hot water. I tried not to soak them too long, the carb mouths have a soft grey metal trumpet pressed in, it reacted vigorously with the acid, so most of it was dunk, then pull out and scrub. Repeat until satisfied. The alloy itself is quite resistant to the acid. I used a stiff bristle brush and fine steel wool. The acid on its own doesn't lift the grime, you need that elbow grease.

I had a bucket with clean water and a dollop of bicarb to neutralise. Don't be a poephol like me, get some rubber gloves, that acid stings like a biatch. And you WILL get it in your eyes . Wear goggles. Plenty of chlorine gas too, do it outside! :D

A final soak and rinse in clean water, and a final going over with toothpicks and carb cleaner and I was satisfied.

I also dressed the mating surfaces with 200 grit on a sheet of glass and plenty water.

Good luck! We want pics!!!!
