First attempt at making a part  This sample shows the flaws in the mold! This first sample will be touched up with sand paper, file and patternmaker's putty and then used to make a better mold! :D :D Note the aluminium Gelcoat  Takes time and patience :)
Used Ram wax and Red PVA release agent

Johann, all is not lost.

That is a decent base to work with.

I would use some Car System body filler (available from Auto Paint Centre in Centurion) to fill in the irregularities.

Rough sand it with 80 grid paper to get the basic shape right.
Cover the outer edges with nice black vinyl and make a loose filler panel for the inside.
Cover that in vinyl and it will look killer.

This is a picture of the center console of the Rekord Coupe when we were refurbishing it.
The top edges of the console looked like your panel and it came out very nice with the filler applied and sanded.

This is the finished product

You are right, I have decided not to go the mould way, but rather build a new face! It is much easier!
Like the Vinyl idea!! :D
Should be finished this weekend. Sons have a nice curing box!
This is how far I got today! ;)

Into the curing box :D Note pegs and plastic to ensure the fibre is bubble proof ;) The plastic and fibre glass do not stick together and leaves a better surface! :) Small areas at a time. 8O Will be cured in approx. 1 Hr ;) Box has 2x100w globes to heat it up! :D Approx 1m long and 450mm x 450mm w/h

Here are my attempts! 8O I am better at repairing than moulding! :? Will repair the black radio face and take the skew edge out! ;) The one I did today, I will not drill or cut, too valuable 8) Have already started with improving the black one. Like Gary Player says; "The more you practice, the better you get!" :D Also a pic of the "Homemade" curing box 8)

Home made free flow exhaust. Just a word of advice ;) Always start from the engine to the rear or you are going to end up short! 8O
57mm tubing! :D Will have the joints welded up in time! Only have a small 140 Amp welder!
