1965/66 Opel Rekord L Rally GMSA

Post by Johann65 » Fri 20 Sep 2013, 20:18

This is a real Barn Find in Mpumalanga!! 8O 8O This is the 1966 Opel Rekord L that carried the first 36DCD Weber and inlet manifold, Also carried disk brakes and booster :D
All that this car requires is a good valet and the repair of the driver's seat. :D
No Rust or respray required, This car is pristine and every thing works! All that is required is a battery and tyres :D :D
Look and enjoy the as found look. Going for a wash tomorrow :D :D

Yes this is it and absolutely original!! This has the McKinnon engine with the Weber Conversion and not the Adam Opel in-head Cam! 8O 8O
Note the condition before even starting to clean. Real work is to clean the tank. :? It stinks!! and full of tar!! Nothing my pressure cleaner will not clean!! :D :D This 66 model was part of the development work undertaken in starting "Operation Mayflower" :D :D

Well oom, I already said it in your forsale threat but I will gladly repeat it again.
Congratulation oom hope you enjoy her.
Glad you did not have to wait to long to get a new toy hehe

Even though I do believe it should have been a Ford hehe

Cheers

Amazing condition of the carpet and no rust on the floorboards! 8) 8) No need to make any fixing changes. It has never had a car radio before and no holes drilled. I feel like a young 22 year again!!

Congrats on the find.

It takes me back to my childhood in a little town called Marydale in the Northwestern Cape.

Oom Gert Smit had one exactly like that and I remember being fascinated by the strip speedometer and the sense of awe to watch that speedo nudge past 95 mph with such ease on trips to Upington.

My dad's 55 Chevy Bel Air had its work cut out to keep up with that little Opel on those open arrow straight roads.....

First wash no Shine! 8O Remember the Opel Rally badge?. Just re-fitted the Air Cleaner, It was in a box minus the Top Carb spacer to ensure correct clearance. Made a spacer!! :D Time for a burger 8) 8)
