Hi all.
Well the transit has been standing in my drive way for three weeks now and today I decided its time to start. First up was the engine, I removed it today and started to strip the engine to see how the inside looks.
Its got a 2.5 V6. The motor did not want to turn over and after removing the heads my suspicion was confirmed. It had blown a head gasket and cyl # 6 was rusted stuck.
The block is already bored to 040 oversize and after I got the piston out I gave the cyl a quick hone to see the extend of the damage. It does not seem as if it will clean out with a re bore. I will have to look for another motor or at least another sub assembly.
Here is some pics of the day work.
Cheers
William

Hi William, what are your plans for the Van?
The beginning of a build is always dreadfull, you discover all the small little things you did not see when it was first bought.
Keep it up and do not get dishearted, enjoy every minute, it will all come together at the end.
Have fun!!

Re: Ford Transit MK1 project
I want to treat the rust as soon as possible then flat and primer. I do not have a garage or carport so the van is standing outside. Then I will give it a top coat and use the van in the mean time while I am searching for all the parts to upgrade the brakes and work on the interior. I all ready discovered some serious rust at the driver side step and side sill, however that seems to be the only really bad spot on the van. I were lucky to find a transit with so little rust. the rest of the issues would be quite easy to sort over time.Chevy-SS-Stroker wrote:Hi William, what are your plans for the Van?

I might have found a replacement sub will drive through during the week to check it out.
