Wondering what happened to a specific Fairmont GT...

Post by 58Chevy » Thu 01 Mar 2012, 19:53

This is probably a long shot, but if there is any place i can get this information it is here...

I am curious as to what happened to a specific fairmont gt... i just want to find out if it is still on the road (still in SA!?) and being looked after.

This is the last information i have:

1. The car was bought at an auction in Kroonstad i assume it was at a bargain price. Approximately 4 to 6 years ago.
2. It was white and had a manual transmission.
3. If i remember correctly it had a vinyl top.
4. Dead give away - the petrol tank was significantly enlarged...

Anyone got some info on this baby? 8O

You will have to give more info like reg no or vin etc.
Was this your car?
I was offered a GT about 6 years ago exactly as what you describe, but it was from Welkom. I declined as it turned out the car was stolen. Are we talking about the same car??

Sorry, but unfortunately that is all the info that i have...

Perhaps it could have ended up in Welkom, but i am not sure. All i know it was bought at an auction. They only unique fact about it is the larger petrol tank or was that a common modification.

Nope, not my car, just someone i knew. They auctioned off this car along with his other cars after he passed away.

The larger petrol tank was a common modification during the 70s - it could cause a lot of problems though.
Yes we did build muscle cars in RSA!!!!

I bought a GT, that had small front damage from a guy in Vanderbijlpark, he owned a scrap yard with lots of old cars etc, I think his name was Toobie or something. Fits the basic description you gave.

Thanks,

Its a bit hard to imagine that car ending up on a scrapyard, since it used to be in a good condition. Well, i guess anything is possible and it was a few years ago.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
