I don't have any pictures. The 20m was a a very nice car v6.

Here are some links to other peoples' pics:

Now a question for in Europe the 20m had the Cologne V6. I ZA I suspect it may have had the Essex V6 - if so it it is another South African special.

According to my uncle they also had air intakes on the bonnet - so I guess they looked like this:

Nice little cars.

Yes, I remember the 20m's. They were well established in the Ford segment and was supposedly to be more of the performance class. They were nice cars indeed and was eventually replaced by the Cortina big six. Of the RS version very few was around as it was released just before the big six Cortina replaced it.

Hi all,

I was a big fan of the 20M's and remember them well. The 20M came onto the market when the Zephyr and Zodiac were discontinued.

The car on this link was one of the earlier models we had here, 1968/69 and had the German V6, 2.6l I think. The small scoop on the bonnet was non functional and only a dummy. It did, however, contribute to its aggressive look for those years. The V6 connected to a 4 speed on the floor made for quite a performer.

The first RS that I can remember was a bit later (1970/71) in the form of a 17M. The 17M had the V4 engine. The V4 was never very successful from what I remember.

The 20M RS in SA had the 3l essex machine and had a flat bonnet. They came in 4 and 2 door bodies. The RS only in 2 door. I remember the RS in a orange/red (maybe peri peri) with the black stripes on the sides and black out's on the bonnet. The 20M's were succeeded by the Granada.

Must have pics of them somewhere. Will look for them. There is a beautiful red 2 door visiting the piston ring regularly that makes my mouth water.

Many a 20M were converted to receive V8's in those days.

regards

Sure I have seen a report as well as a full write up in my archive somewhere. Was in Car magazine.

This is the closest I saw to one not too long back. I specifically took these few photo's because of remembering an RS which I think I have seen only one real one years ago.

Theuns,

You prompted a memory in my brain. That orange with black stripes was a brilliant colour scheme.

It was orange - like the fruit orange - not peri-peri, or a dull orange like mustard.

Yes and the 3 litre 20Ms were quick. Eddie Keizan won the Star production car championship in a 20M Coupe entered by Alex Blignaut and sponsored by Ford S A.

It won the championship in the then Tvl championship but got beaten when Koos Swanepoel and Peter Gough in Cortina Perana and Capri V6 respectively took it on at Kyalami. Think the problem with the car was that it was quite a bit heavier than the similarly engined Cortina and Capri.
