Australian Valiant Chargers
Hi Guys,
I hear that Australian Built Valiant chargers were sent to South Africa in the '70s - is this true ?
Does anyone have one ?
It seems most of them have either been written off or are rusted to buggery in Australia now which is a real shame they were such a sexy looking car.
If anyone has any photos of South African chargers, please post them - love to see what they did with them over there.
Regards,
Nick

Re: Australian Valiant Chargers
A few might have been privately imported, but I dont think any was sold through the dealer network here. I think mostly because of our own valiant chargers based on the american duster/demon.
Yes we did build muscle cars in RSA!!!!

have seen a couple of valiants, but as tiaan says, mostly revolved around the US ones.
plenty of 4 door regals from aus etc, but definitely no pacers/RT's etc
there'd be one in my shed already if there were.

Hi Guys, It seems Sth Africa were planning on importing for production the Australian Valiant Charger and calling it the Savannah etc. If you read the article carefully it says that CSA had started Research and Development on the Aussie Chargers etc so they obviously brought some into the country in the early 1970s although the Project never took off as they went bust in 1975.

Re: Australian Valiant Chargers
I always found it quite strange when most of the saloon range was Aussie based that they looked to America for a Coupe.

A couple Australian Chargers (more than 5 ) in South Africa. The one in my pics is a Slant Six, 4 speed manual one taken at our recent Mopars at The Mall meet.

Re: Australian Valiant Chargers
Hi thanks, yes I have seen pics of that one, to my knowledge and research the Red VJ Charger was imported by Pretoria Chrysler dealer in 1973 and was the only VJ Charger brought In by a dealership and sold that I can find history of. Do you know who owns it? Would love to speak to them.
The other is the one that that was for sale a while back which is a Vh 1971 e37 charger that was privately imported back in 1971 by a unknown importer as it does not have the Chrysler dealer code on the tag like the VJ one does above. (recently sold)
Then I know of one other that is in the S.A which was imported by the original Australian owner to Cape town a few years back etc. This was not a South African delivered car.
Do you know of any others??

Re: Australian Valiant Chargers
Welcome to the forum! Please share your Chrysler and Valiant knowledge with us, I for one thing these cars have been overlooked for too long. I remember the Cape Town car, not sure what ever happened to it but I do know a few years ago someone on this forum was selling parts from an Aussie Charger.val265 wrote: ↑Sat 30 Sep 2017, 03:15Hi thanks, yes I have seen pics of that one, to my knowledge and research the Red VJ Charger was imported by Pretoria Chrysler dealer in 1973 and was the only VJ Charger brought In by a dealership and sold that I can find history of.
