I don't think this is true just for the US. News no longer seem to be news, it's all agenda pushing. I more trust indivudial guys and gals on youtube than big news organizations.
I think this excellent Trimtone review is worth reading.

Nobody's land has been taken and much of this is geared towards the elections next year , just like RDP housing was the big draw card for voters ... and they are still waiting ...
