SAPPHIRE V8

Post by twincam nc » Tue 16 Jan 2018, 10:45

Hello Guys im new here on the forum some nice rides you fellas have here
i hope someone here can help me with some info on the car.

My dad bought this car (1992 Ford Sapphire V8) IN 1996 car is silver and have the original cosworth wheels, cosworth boot spoiler, side skirts but the front bumper seems to be different then what our sapphire (SA SPEC) bumpers looks like and different then the actual cosworth front bumper.
Car sits lower then normal V8 sapphire's (factory built) ive seen around.
Car have 5.0 badges on the fender and RS500 badge on the boot.
My dad stripped the motor some time back and we noticed that this car's 302 windsor motor is different then our normal 302 windsor motors. Some people said that its apparently an british 302 which i have no idea about.
Piston was smaller, valves in the head was also smaller also the distributor was different then the normal 302 motors.

The plate on the inside says it was built by Samcor.
If anybody maybe have an idea what this car is or have any info on it.
Regards

PS. i dont have any pics of the car yet car standing in a garage by my dads house

This sounds like a Novel Ford built Sapphire V8. The V8's were never built by Ford but a few Dealers did conversions and Novel Ford in Paarl was one such dealer and the badging and the body kit were fitted to the Novel built cars. The Novel built cars had a sort of hybrid Cosworth body kit fitted, the front bumper was different if I recall correctly.

The 302's used were in marine spec which might explain what you found when it was stripped down.

By the way, where are you from?

i might have put it wrong sorry but the pistons was different like a hump on it so i suggest it was to raise compression in the motor

If you can post some pictures of the car it would be helpful. Does it have a T5 gearbox?

I am 99% certain with those wheels its a Novel Ford car, for me the most sought after of the V8 Sapphire conversions.
