@rassie
Thanks, wont be needind that for my car yet...but myself i am a thirsty engine
@weasel
I believe SA will have to follow if they like it or not as soon as the car manufactores stop producing cars with combustion engines.
@scorpion
Please note that China is embracing the E cars... for their "smog" cities...from a article i read, china has currently the most e-cars on the road

Rather take away the cruise ships. One cruise ship polute as much as n million cars.

I know that will not cure the problem of city centre polution. Problem is a lot of people in places like London are living with their frontdoor on the curb.

South Africa (from wikipedia)
The stock of the plug-in electric cars in the country climbed from 30 all-electric cars in 2013 to about 50 in 2013, and as of December 2015, there were about 290 plug-in electric cars registered, consisting of 170 all-electric cars and 120 plug-in hybrids. All the plug-in hybrids were registered in 2015.[3]
GridCars is a Pretoria based company promoting Commuter Cars, their launch vehicle is based on the TREV from Australia. The concept behind the electric car is to build ultra-light EVs, placing less demand on battery requirements, and making the vehicle more affordable.[585] The Joule, designed by Cape Town-based Optimal Energy,[586] made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, has a maximum driving range of 300 km (190 mi). The Juoule accommodates two large-cell lithium ion battery packs.[587]
The first series production electric car available for retail sales in the country was the Nissan Leaf, introduced in October 2013. BMW South Africa has plans to introduce the BMW i3 and BMW i8. The country does not have government incentives or subsidies to promote electric cars.[588] Plug-in electric car sales totaled 80 units during the first three months of 2016, consisting of 55 BMW i3s, 15 BMW i8s, and 10 Nissan Leafs.[589]

The engines onboard ship are amazing...you can crawl through a cilinder liner and walk in the sump.
Engines run on heavy fuel oil HFO which is treated onboard with an purifier...countries put more and more restrictions on the ship where they have to change their fuel to lower sulpher oil.
In some countries it is ony allowed to run marine gas oil with polluts a lot less...
In othercountries ships have to stop their engines and use shorepower, in Alaska and Californa cruiseships allready plug into the grid when alongside

Try drive that electric car from JHB to CT
That being said I took the Lumina out last night to just make noise and revel in the greatness of the internal combustion engine.

Re: E-cars the future...the end of petrolheads?
Yes today not possible...but in europe you have super chargers and a Tesla is charged in 20 minutes (eat,drink go to the bathroom and continue) with again about 500km range...
SA is is lacking this infrastructure but we are talking future here...
Tesla also developed a battery changing station were you just change your battery in 1 minute or so...ill post the video below...
Just to be clear here i am a petrol head and also prefer the sound of a roaring V8

But you do not drive 1500km oneway in Europe for a holiday. You take a plane or train and public transport that actually works.
