Hi Guys

I am in the market for an XR8. How would I know if the car is authentic? Apart from the rear spoiler, nose cone and arches, how can I verify if it is a genuine XR8 as apposed to a re-body or an XR6 with a V8 in it?

Vish

on the drivers side chassis leg there is a serial number stamped. under the drivers side headlamp will be a body tag saying its a xr8. some of the speedo cluster got v8 printed in red on the top corner. the distributor is in front of the engine and not at the back

Where on the car will I find this number. Also will this number correspond with the engine number like the Perana's do?

Important this because so many cars have had the bumpers sprayed black (I actually prefer them black)

Hey Vish
The series number Alvin is referring to is in fact on the back of the block behind the intake. The sierra xr8 does not have a corresponding number on the body.Apart from the points already mentioned it also has a rectangular pressed steel panel running across the front of the radiator with attaching points for the grille.Interior trim is xr8-specific as is the steering wheel,A.P. racing brakes, completely different rear subframe with granada type differential and heavy duty axles.Dipstick tube should come out of the block and not the timing cover as on more common 302 engines.
Of course if you find the distributor issue that Alvin referred to there is no need to continue.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Colin

Thanks Colin.
In the past few weeks a number of them have come up on sale. Prices ranging from R100 -R200K. I have made an offer on one - awaiting the sellers response.
