On the topic of Capri Perana's for sale, I'd like to again bring it under the attention of fellow members to please drop me a mail if you know of an original, NON-RESTORED Perana with manual gearbox, preferably yellow with black bootlid.

No time waster or tyre kicker here.....

Thanks for looking :D

Is there perhaps anybody who could quickly go over to Mr Ted Young in Edenvale to view the Perana for me.

This will save me time and money before flying my father up from Cape Town.....

Thanks :D

The provinance of the Peranas. There were several different circumstances/ situations that Peranas were built in, and each one of them would have realized a different set of identification plates that would not always be consistent with what we would like to believe. The underseat body tag with Perana stamped on it would only be on the bodies built by Ford specifically for the Perana purposes and shipped to BG. In this case the body tags would be consistant from Ford and BG would add his in the engine bay and the Ford tag would remain in the engine bay too .

Then we get the later 1600 GTXLR cars which were converted to V8 Perana. These would have matching 1600 body tags under the seat and a 1600 Ford engine bay tag and the V8 Perana tag from BG. No underseat tag will confirm being a Perana.

In addition to this there were the conversion cars that were done for the Joe Public Customers who brought their 1600 or 2000 or 3000 Capri in to BG and requested a V8 Perana conversion. These would have the various model original tags from Ford and the BG Perana tag. Many conversions were done this way and I would estimate around 40 units. No underseat tag will confirm being a Perana.

The same would apply to the private cars done at BG for his family, race drivers and special order cars done for friends. These I would estimate at around 10 units. These too would have their various model tags from Ford and a BG Perana tag. No underseat tag will confirm being a Perana.

It is interesting to note that the BG Race cars were built from 1600 shells complete with a bench seat in the back and whichever colour seats the car started out with.

So next time you see a Perana with a different tag under the seat, don't write it off as a clone. You need to look a lot closer at the other changes done at BG. These tell a lot more. Cheers.
