A friend of mine went to look at this car in the flesh, awesome to say the least, If it is properly built and even though it has no pedigree or race history it is still worth GBP30k upwards as even replicas in the UK now are fetching big money.
It has a Cosworth YB but the real deal would have been a BDA or BDG.

YES it will probably cost more to build this car at current exchange but I l think the owner is hoping for a UK buyer. then these days you never know who has money in SA that will take his offer.

A proper race car with history In the UK will go for around GBP60k upwards but then that will be an actual car from back in the day

Does your friend know Gunter's Mustang is available for R100k less?

I spoke to a race car owner in DBN today who has 2 Chevrons and a Shelby, he says that Cosworth motor alone will cost in the region of 500k to build.

Says it's worth every cent. I was astounded.

Len, that would be FVA, FVC, BDA Cosworth race engine. This is a YB which is the motor from the Cosworth Sierra turbo and 4wd Cosworth Escort turbo of which thousands were built so I would imagine the rebuild cost of those as a naturally aspirated engine to be a lot less.

Just noticed on the advert which does make a difference the price includes shipping.

about 24000 Cosworth YB engines were made so are not that plentiful, in N/A form built with the right parts can make over 400bhp but cost a fortune. It is easy to spend over R300k building a proper YB especially in N/A form.
all engine parts can still be bought new from Cosworth as well as alloy blocks and new cyl heads. the BDA and BDG and Kent blocks are all available new in alloy from Cosworth as well as cylinder heads but unfortunately out pathetic currency puts these out of reach for most.

Just a bare block and head for a YB will cost over R150k and that's just on exchange rate 8O

Personally I don't see this selling in SA, its huge chunk of change and if I were shopping I'd rather have Gunter's Mustang.
