Before everybody jump on the Monaro price race band wagon.
The Monaro on the Australian auction website mentioned earlier on the site, state it is a, Holden Monaro Bathurst 5.4L GTS.
Is there anything special or scarce about it.
The only thing I could find is that the HK Monaro Bathurst GTS327 5.4L gave Holden its first victory in the Bathurst 500 in 1968.
Could anybody that knows, shed some light on this model, and how our South African variant differ from it.

As far as I know, there was never a Bathurst special edition Monaro, this is simply sought after because the GTS327 is the first Monaro, and first Holden, that ever won the Bathurst 500, the GTS350 Monaro did it again in 1969, and those are the only 2 Monaro’s to ever win a Bathurst 500/1000, which is Australia’s most prestigious race. In 1970 the Falcon GT HO took over. Perhaps it can be said that Holden build the GTS327, with the intention to win at Bathurst.

We can’t really compare it in SA, as we no longer have a modern 9 Hour or Wynn’s 1000, and never had a production car, build in SA, win such a long-lived historic race. Closest we can compare is a Capri Perana or CanAm, which respectively won their championships.

I don’t think the GTS327 Monaro(327 Chevrolet engine), which was the HK model, ever came to South Africa. We received the HT model, from around 1970, which mostly had the 308 Holden engine, rarely a GTS350, 350 Chevrolet powered Monaro. I don’t know of any HG model Monaro’s in SA, as by then, roughly 1971, they were rebadged as Chevrolet SS’s. I must mentioned I’ve heard of a few original 307ci Chevrolet powered ones too.
