Not a classic - Opel content

Post by IndianaJones » Mon 28 Apr 2014, 13:16

This is not a classic, but a very likable car though and when have you last seen one in this condition?
And why isn't it a classic? I believe the 3.8 V6 was a Buick derived engine, similar to the ones used in the Aussie Holden Commodore, and this option was only available in South Africa, making it the fastest Rekord ever produced.

I do not think a 1992 model can achieve classic status so early and I do not

know if this Opel will be a classic in years to come.Maybe not.

I agree with you IndianaJones--this is tons of value for the money. Sad to say, in the

current economic situation and the fuel price I will not be surprised should this Opel

eventually go for less, +- R25,000.

Agree, That is why with the 66 Opel it is not going to cost more than R16k. ;) That 3.8 engine is Buick based I gave one to GTFreak! :D

Those FI 3.8L Buick V6's are a hell of a motor: stone reliable, peppy and reasonable fuel consumption........they were used here in the USA/Canada from 1985 to very recently in many of our FWD GM sedans like the Buick Le Sabre, etc. :)

The above comments are symptomatic of the problem with General Motor's (then Delta Motor Corporation) marketing department at the time.

In general, the whole Opel Rekord range, was their best kept secret.

You got so much more car than the Sierra/Sapphire, Nissan Skyline and Toyota Cressida of the day, yet nobody knew about them.

Very nice condition, basically a Holden Commodore mechanically.

Ja,it is sad. On the other hand R1 price drop will not help. Price it reasonably and it will

go.It all depends on the pressure to sell....
