Hullo Gareth; That block was cast in Mexico and machined in Niew Zeeland! There is also a 6 cyl Blue engine in a Holden Ute that is on the road locally.
I have a head that is from Mexico! They came in from Mexico when Dimbaza Foundries ceased operations! My Graphite Co. used to supply the electrodes to Dimbaza!
Some interesting features on the car! What body type? and are there pics of the body?

Great to know! I looked for some distinguishing marks and even the inlet manifold casting marks is different to mine! :)
Impossible to destroy those engines! 8O
The engine data is very clear! Casting no ****148 from Mexico Foundry No 3 and then the machining No ****5202 NZ :D

Is the Manta Local?, I think not!! 8O

I would take that engine and Bling it with some chrome and Blue engine paint! I am nearly complete with my Rekord and will tackle my spare Engine and Gearbox and bring it to Bling status! Have all the parts to be able to start it on a stand!! Nice little project! :D

Question.
If the date is the production date, what numbers specifies it as a 2.5L?
And what vehicle was sold in SA, still powered by a Chev 153 model series engine, in 1984, or 1985?

As far as I know, the last of them were the 2.3L's in the Chevair & Rekord, which was out of production by 1984?

Is this a aftermarket replacement block? Or marine block?

No Numbers except the HO letters and the Inlet Weber conversion.
The 2770 numbers might indicate 2.770 L?

All your Military vehicles to this day!
None! This engine is not local in any aspect! It is from Nieuw Zeeland. That is why I suspect that Manta is not local!

That is correct! My 84 Opel/Chev Record had a 2.0 L Cam in head! The same with the 2.8 L Commodore!

I think not? Some history? Marine engines were mostly 130 CI.

I am trying to think like a GM employee!
