Chev 4.1 Temp sending unit

Post by Mustang Sally » Sat 13 Jun 2015, 13:48

Hi Guys, I am now on new Temp sending unit no 3 from Midas for the Hornet.
If I short out the wire the gauge reads full temperature, but when I connect to sending unit it doesn't budge from 0.
Is this perhaps a calibration issue and if so, how to resolve? Thanks!

I have the very same problem. With a temp gauge called "Equus"

First round the guage itself was faulty.Next one the sender unit seems to be faulty.

I have decided to buy a more expensive temp guage for my C10 and say farewell to this cheap stuff. Maybe

it is also a better investment for the future.I do not think I will trust the Midas Equus over the long run, even

if it proposes to be in working condition.

I had just replaced the Kadett's temp sending unit. Between the earth side and the connecting (Live) point You should get a reading of about 5 Ohm. I.e. You should see the gauge needle just move! The higher the Ohm reading the higher the temp reading. If you get a high start temp when cold on fitting the sender unit, then you have a wiring problem!

Did you ever get this resolved Mustang Sally?

I bought a sender from the agents (before they gave up on the country again) - but get no movement on the Hornet standard guage

Hi Carlo

Never managed to sort out. Eventually got a new aftermarket gauge and wired it directly.

Cheers
