'Professional' brake modification

Post by jmvv » Sat 25 Oct 2014, 10:10

While pulling the motor for the Galaxie, I bumped against the brake booster. AND IT MOVED. 8O

http://vid302.photobucket.com/albums/nn ... 2esvnv.mp4
(the clicking noise is the engine hoist, lifting the engine)

I almost had a fit.

This brake mod was done "professionally" and the perpetrator got paid for it. So far a brake caliper has fallen off (random workshop "bolt bin" fasteners were used in that case).

Now the booster is going awol.

And I just realised that the brake pipes from the booster are brazed to accept the different nipples.

I'll post more pictures once I've got the booster off.

I really don't understand the hesitancy to put names out there. This type of bullshit kills it for everybody......

Blixem, that is too much! 8O

I would not drive that car unless every single nut and bolt were double checked :o

Even just doing the work at home Johann, I'm sure the quality of work that you do looks ten times better. We're always impressed by your abilities.

As promised, the horror continues......

These are the joined brake pipes

This is the brake line running to he rear. It is rubbing on the steering coupler. What can go wrong? There is hardly any movement there

Image

I then removed the booster and found this masterpiece of mechanical engineering.
(Johann please don't blame me if you throw up in your mouth)

And finally the "Piece de Resistance"

How the FBLEEPBLEEPBLEEPK am I supposed to fix that!

Been a long time since I've seen work like this - actually, never in my life.

I wholeheartedly agree with Barry - tell everybody who the arsehole is, so people at least have the choice, and are forewarned. These guys can kill families, yours and mine.

The pics should be forwarded to RMI and Mibco with full details of the workshop involved so that they can send inspectors around to check on the qualifications of the staff. Its a bloody disgrace.
