67 Mustang Mystery!!

My partner in Crime and I bought a 67 Mustang yesterday for a "appel en n ui" (dirt cheap)....to convert to a Fastback, now before you Ford purists lose it!!!....the roof is already chopped off. Which makes it the perfect car to convert. its got a 9 Inch, with 390 motor and 3 speed auto. Will make a nice 390GT.

I decoded the Vin and guess what..the Vin says it really is a Drop Top.
Very wierd cause it clearly looks like a home job, and theres no space beside the rear seats to accommodate the folding mechanism for the soft top, and at the back is the standard Notchback panel that sits under the rear window????? so what the hell is going on? :?

We've imported a couple "kits" to convert coupes to fastbacks

Fastback Roof panel
fastback rear quarters and the fastback trunk filler panel

Dunno why but the guy never orders the trunk lid? maybe he had a couple trunk lids laying around

just a FYI
Cheers

The reason the numbers decode as a genuine convertible is because they were trying to pass it off as a genuine convertible, and maybe had a scrapped convertible laying around.

One way to make sure is to jack it up on the rocker panels, if no damage occurs, its a genuine convertible, if the rocker panels crumple, its not. :P Not familiar with the stangs but there should be half a dozen ways to tell, just from looking at the undercarriage.
