Thanks guys - i will keep you updated as i go.

Bigblock, i never studied any Drag specific rules, but there was some very interesting results that would be applicable to all forms of motorsport.

The single most important and most common fact was the following:

RULE STABILITY = A DIRECT POSITIVE INFLUENCE ON COMPETITOR NUMBERS
or explained a different way, keep on messing or F....with or change rules(o and we South Africans love this!) and competitor numbers WILL drop.

So if my bakkie series ever does become a reality:

RULE 1:

- No Rules will be changed/altered for a minimum of 5 years!

- if after a 5 year period,a change in a rule/s is suggested, it can only be implimented by a majority vote
(each ACTIVE driver in series to have 1 vote) and must be motivated in writing and include at least 1 of the following 3 points:
a) an improved safety suggestion for competitor/car rule change
b) a costing savings benefit for competitor rule change
c) an improved spectator/sponsor appeal rule change

once changes are voted in and agreed by organisers - these rule will then again not be changed/altered for a further 5 years.

Above might seem a bit harsh - but those of you that are involved in Motorsport will know how all to often rules are suggested by competitors that suit them personally!

Good luck with the project Grunter sure it will be do well. I'm just thinking it's a pity it's not ready for the Freestate Indy car race soon.
Yip another cool option is a racing series for Taxi's. But not enough competition of brands. I sure would enjoy watching it.
Yip was seriously entertained the weekend watching Ignition race with the Galaxcy and Mustang and other big cars doing there thing on the track.

Yip please keep us in the loop of any good news towards it happening!

Awsome Gunter!

Great thoughts on the rules.

My opinions:
Keep the ouside bodywork identical (or nearly) to the road vehicles. With proper grilles and lights. Maybe even use the original ouside sheet metal if possible. Sheet steel body pressings are very cheap from China.

If can you keep the looks real you will get a lot of buy in from the public and so, hopefuly, from sponsors. Remember the heydays of Production Car racing and Group N - Joe Public could identify with those cars.

I think that one of the disappointing developments with NASCAR, and a loty of other space frame series, is that the cars look like generic jelly molds, and hardly resemble the road cars. By contrast Aussie V8's and Ute racing is still identifiable withe the production road cars.

Lights give you some interesting options for night races and enduros.

Far out thought - is there any way you could harmonise with Aussie Ute rules? Then we could have some interesting internationals.

The single biggest plus point about this idea was the R99 000 ex vat price tag. 2 major curf balls cropped up, the 1 UZ engines are scare and not longer cost 5k, secondly alot of the components were USA sourced and @ R14 to the $ vs R7 at the time, makes it just not viable -

Any plans for another type of series?

Or which series do you think could get motorsport in SA the spectator numbers there once was?

Rallycross? GTC? something else?

Rallycross coming to SA later in the year, has been confirmed by the FIA Boss of Rally cross end of last year. so SA is now on the official calendar which is just awesome.

Rallycross
Australian V8 supercars,
the 2 formats above are the Best racing in the world 2nd to none at the moment.
Then comes Historic racing world wide
1984 Rover Vanden Plas V8 (Historic Race car)
1986 Rover 3500 Vitesse (UK Import Ex London Police Car)
1983 Rover Vanden Plas undergoing conversion to race car.
2009 Ford Territory ST,
2006 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Auto, daily driver

I am aware, with Killarney to host the event. There is also prevision for a local championship, with dates of events set aside on the WPMC calendar, and the rules available for download.
But not much other info is forthcoming. I suppose only once the track is constructed will promoting of the local series take place.

Agreed, now with Killarney getting World RX, if only Kyalami could get the Australian V8 Supercars here for a round... Oh and don't forget the Australian Touring Car Masters...

think the rally x will be a positive injection for Cape Town. Last quote to get the Ozzy v8s out for a round of there championship was 40mil rand.
