The mighty 333....

Post by ZA Perana » Sun 12 Oct 2008, 21:24

A rare beast and to see and hear one on the track is even rarer, especially when its a concurs example like this one was....the bark of the straight six.

For me it was about going back, back to the maverick days of BMW SA when crazy projects like this were carried out...the idea of the 333 comming from a dinner top BMW SA execs had, the idea being written a napkin apparently...

I had only ever seen 1 of these cars before today and it was a tired example. In fact this example was featured in Octane magazine recently.

I wonder if a car like that will ever have a "classic status" like a Fairmont or so. But a muscle car nonetheless.

I class it as a classic, much more of a classic than a 70s Chev SS....only 204 of the 333i were ever made and it wasnt made anywhere else in the world....but the howl of the straight six....

Wouldnt say more than a SS, but definately classic and collectible.

The BMW's that I would want in my garage that are unique and in very limited numbers:

530MLE
745i
E28 M5
333i
325is

I'd definately have the 333i, and possibly the M5. What about these though:

1. M6 (635 with the 24Valve M1 Motor - 210Kw) 1984-1986/7 - AWESOME vehicle to drive and own.

2. 2002tii (Got one that is nearing a 5Yr restoration) Building it to Alpina A4 Spec - 160Bhp.

3. 3.0csl (220Bhp in a lightened car) Killed the Capri RS3100's in Europe on the tracks. I have one of the first 187 built in twin carb form - a wreck though due for restoration when the tii is complete. All in all 500csl's were built worldwide the last few came out nicknamed "Batmobiles" cos of their crazy aerodynamic wings.

4. e36 M3 - Box Shape - Howling 2.5 4-pot - it'll make your spine tingle.

Ok, so maybe these aren't musclecars, but they are still beauts.

A very interesting car the 333i. Pity more didn't come of it - would have been great to see it developed further the way the 325 eventually grew into the 325is.

Tiaan I like your list. The only thing missing from it is Nick Sheward's amazing 745i track car!

Thanks Rassie

The 745i was a special built I think between '84 and '86 with the M1 motor in it http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=4

Very expensive to keep running though...
