front seat belts

Post by docjohn » Fri 17 Oct 2014, 16:30

My 69 Barracuda from Elsies River but now resident in England has (front) shoulder seat belts attached at the top end by bolts just behind the interior lamps on either side behind the rear seat. Would these have been the standard American fitting or were they installed according to South African regulations of the time to replace American lap belts?

There are no rear seat belts.

Basically, what I'm asking is, did cars made in South Africa in 1969 have to have shoulder belts, or even seat belts at all?

As far as I know only lap belts would have been fitted.

Wait not for tomorrow to do what can be done today, live each day for one knows not what the next day may hold.

We only had the smash your forehead against the steering wheel lap belts. But all A bodies have the mounting points to mount the shoulder belts hidden behind the headliner. I marked mine to possibly do shoulder belts one day
