Hi guys,has anybody looked into the Lexus v8 motor.Ihad the pleasure of seeing the heads off a motor. The combustion chamber and flat top pistons look like a modern superbike motor with valves and ports to suit .Is this where we are headed.Wots the weight like? Ally block and heads look good.So does intake.Some info would be nice guys.Cheers,

Hi Grunty,I am new to this forum and ex SA living in New Zealand for about 9 years now.The use of the Lexus v8 is big here from ditrtrack,drags,curcuit,street,etc.The motors are super reliable.Some of the guys I deal with in the motor trade use these motors.One has just been fitted to a boat and the tow vechile is a Hilux Surf fitted with a V8 Lexus.You can get good power if you spend the money but i have seen supercharged and even twin turbo convertions.Power ranges from 450hp normal aspirated to about 850hp for a twin turbo setup.It all depends on the funds.

Two of my friends are currently using Lexus motors, one in a Jeep and the other in a Colt bakkie. The power on these things for the price is unbelievable so is the fuel consumption. The guy with the bakkie gets in the region of 15km/l at a average speed of 130 km/h. None of them have been modified and power is running in the 200 kw region. Reliability is apparently also out of this world.
This could defenately be an option for a modified beast and R 10k puchase price make sense.

Wow interesting stuff guys, how difficult is it to fit one of these newer engines to an older car?

Hi,you get different type motors,front centre and rear sump.The motors are really compact.There are different headers as well .The most commanly used one is called the log style headers.One of my mates has one of these motors in his 80s Corolla.He is running a 21R box and the motor and box fits without firewall mods.The bonnet shuts normal and the car looks standard .I will try to get some pics.

Hi

Friend of ours is busy installing a Lexus V8 into an Opel Manta GTE (U K Import)

Gearbox is Toyota 21R.

We are however unsure of how to run the electronics/ignition.

It has been mentioned that some of the aftermarket companies like Dictator sell a pre programmed system to allow you to start and run the vehicle and then have it dyno'd properly afterwards.


Anyone have any experience with this?

Any other advice will be appreciated.

Hi,the guys over here normally use the factory wiring loom and sometimes modify the factory ECU.You can use aftermarket management and start from scratch, it is just the cost.There should be guys in SA that would have a system to do the job.It will be costly to get a system from overseas.
