I think there is a difference between Limited Production runs (specified numbers) 100 units, and Short production runs (i.e. Stop gap models) of e.g. 8 months only! :D :D

There was also "Zero" editions of Datsun's, thus far I've read about the 1200 and 1970 510 SSS getting the treatment.

CAR Magazine tested a Datsun 1200 Zero, in the January 1972 issue.

There was also "Interceptor" versions of the Datsun Laurel in the early 80's.

Not sure though, if these cars still carried a factory warranty.

The Zero was a kit fitted by John Coniche (spelling)and Paddles Adler, they formed Alconi which specialized in making Renaults go faster. As far as the Alfa's go, SA was the only country outside Italy to manufacture the 116 GTV of the 80's. The turbo's were again conversions and not really production cars, John Coniche was also involved in those courtesy of his company Alpine Developments.
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged

The 65/66 Opel Olympia Rekord was a good example Only ran for 8 months and the South African model with the McKinnon 2.1 engine, Only about 400 were built.
The South African 1965 Malibu, only about 50 were assembled!
1965/66 was the time of Model changes with the "C" model Opel and the New Chevelles.

Opel Rekord Coupe is another car that comes to mind which has a limited production run.
Alfa GTV 3.0
Ford Capri Perana V8
Chevy Lumina Supercharged

Alpine developments came up with a few aftermarket modified cars. Thinking of the twin turbo Sierra, Alfa Guillietta 2.0 turbo and the Mazda 323 2.0 Turbo
