Re: 289 Ford V8 setup
Jaco,
to fit a 302 or 289 into a courier is a simple process and you dont have to go to any speciality shops to do so. I fitted a 351 into a courier and here are a few ideas
1. the 302 and 289 uses the same oil sump but you will have to get one with the double hump or "camel" sump and matching pick up.
2. the fire wall and tunnel needs very little modification or alteration and that you can do with a 4lb hammer and slight tapping for clearance. I used a C4 automatic and had to cut one ear or square block off the bellhousing for clearance with no tunnel modification at all. cutting off this peice did not compromise the strenght of the bellhousing at all
3. there is a steel crossmember that is bolted to the chassis with 4 bolts. I remove and repositioned it slightly and used 2 of the existing holes but had to drill 2 extra holes.
4. Master parts in Cape town stocks a Block hugger exhaust branches for about R1000 which fits this application perfectly.
5. for engine mountings, I used the original V8 block mounding and made up the lower peice with a 50 X 5mm flat bar and a thich wall tube and high tensile bolt. It did not take more than 30 minutes to make.
6. gearbox crossmember was the original courier re-drilled for the V8 mounting
7. I used a sapphire V6 radiator which mounded directly under the slam panel without much alteration.
you can do this conversion over the weekend except for the propshaft, and exhaust system
Good luck

yes it was a little bit to much I also thought, I told him we can get the rest of the stuf later so he gave me this look and tuned me "We are here now, why drive all this way again, when we can make one trip"... I just kept quite the rest of the time eish?

That's how I roll. Down the hill 'cause the car won't start and the brakes don't work.
