Hi All
I would just like to get a feel for what everyone thinks about alternative or modern powerplants in a historic car
This includes your Ford modular series, GM LM series, as well as Lexus UZ series, and even Toyota's JZ series, Mazda 13b, any others I'm forgetting?
I find that often we try and meet American standards, and therefore disregard any alternatives despite the mechanical suitability. Depending ofcourse whether it is a showcar build specifically to the original spec vs a daily driver, where in actual fact the original setup may not have been better. Car culture is also a culture of expression and to each their own I believe.
So please feel free to share your point on this, its an open discussion, please no criticisms and derogatory attitudes, lets keep it clean

Re: Modern Powerplants
Hi
I think it boils down to what u want from the car.
If its a collector you leve it alone. Stock engine.
If its a toy u do what u want. I have seen many beetles n escorts running 13b and the owners love them.
A nother point is what can you afford.
I have removed many a diesel engine to make way for a 3l essex, one of the most versitile motors around in my oppinion, small easy to install, cheap to rebuild.
Im new to the v8s but understand 350 chevy is cheaper to build than any other v8, maybe someone would like to comment on this.

Re: Modern Powerplants
My 2c....if you want a modern powerplant buy a modern car...
I do however understand why people do it, its about reliabilty...it not easy to keep those older engines going if you are not technical...although technical people would say it is easier to keep them going...
Well there is some food for thought

Re: Modern Powerplants
I am old school and do not trust the new technology as they can put a cloth over my eyes and rob me. I like to do all work myself. If my car stop I get out with a smile and 15 minutes later we drive again. Ask my 351W F100. It can almost take you to heaven! No electronics and old school
carburetors. Points and condenser with spare fuel pump behind the seat. From I could remember my late Dad took us all over S.A. and we never broke down!!!!!!!!!!! I also never broke down on the road! If the traffic is bad many new cars not paid for yet, stand next to the road!!
MY opinion.
Some pictures to enjoy.
Cheers
