Henry for you.

After Y151 raced in that Springbok series, what exactly was the course of events. Who used it as a rally car and do you know when and for how long. I have quite a few pics of Escorts rallying in that period and was wondering if any were of Y151 in rally disguise.

After the 1971 9 hour the car was converted to rally spec for the 1972 season. One of the Fekken brothers, and I presume it to be Herman, then rallied the car for part of 1972. We do not know whether this was regional or national rallies. Somewhere in 1972 the car was purchased by Prof Karel de Villiers, a close friend of the Fekken family. He fitted a 1300 engine and rallied the car in regionals until the fuel crises in 1973. He then put the car in storage where it remained for 33 years until purchased by L. P. We do have one picture of the car being rallied by Prof de Villiers.

We have a meeting set up with de Villiers for next month to view the current progress with the restoration.

Any idea of the colour of the rally car?

Not 100% sure. Will check with Prof de Villiers when we see him, but from one black and white pic we've got it appears to be original Ford/Meissner colours.

If you guys can drag yourself away from rally cars...

Henry I have found a supplier of small Lucky Strike stickers - should I get one or two? Then maybe we can get them enlarged in ZA.

Talking of stickers - I used to have a sticker collection second to none when I was a youngster. I would write to every company linked to motor racing, no matter how remote and ask for stickers. When my mother went shopping we would go with and walk into garages and ask for stickers. We had thousands and as a collection today would be really interesting as many of those "sponsors" probably don't exist anymore. I could have provided LS stickers to the whole LS racing setup for ages. And Gunston.

Did anyone else go through the sticker craze? A bit like cigarette cards before the war.

Don't get me upset now. In my teens I has all of the Gunston stickers. Even worse I had the exact large size Lucky Strike and Castrol stickers that I now need for the RS2600.

Lucky Strike stickers ordered. Hope eveything turns up before I leave. There is plan B if they don't, someone else is coming across to ZA a bit later.

Thanks

Thought about it last night.

I should still have Lucky Strike Racing sticker with Dave Charlton's Lotus 72 on it.

Must check.
