Fairlane, are you from SA - you seem to know a bit about racing here?

Wing - check the Racing Sports Cars thread. This confirms what I said about the Lola T70. I think it is timing - the T70 was converted into a F5000 T140 in 1969 but it is not the same car on the trailer as the picture shows. Serrurier had the T70 and a T140, both in the Walls colour scheme at the same time.

Doug made the T140 with Lola's permission, but it was sold to Domingo I think it was. This must have been 1970. There were a few T140's in SA, Dave Charlton also brought one in and he even won a race with it. But it was unreliable and he got shot of it before purchasing the Lotus 49

John MacNicol also had a 140, or could have been a 142 as they were vertually Identical.

Doug Serrurrier did cannabalise the T70 to build the 140. That is fact.

The chassis, body and other remains were dumped. At the Piper meeting earlier this year I was told that the remains currently rest under a sports or rugby field in Gauteng.

Now I note the same T70 is for sale again in Australia. Apparently the 140 converted back to T70 Sports Car spec !!.

Well how much of the original T70 is left is very debatable if the original's body and chassis was used as landfill all those years ago.

McNicol had the T142 very similar to the T140. He then progressed on to the T190.

I must say I also heard the T70 became part of a landfill

The T140 had fairings around the oil collers at rear of the car whereas the T142 was open at the back with no body work. Jackie Pretorius only drove the T140, with Charlton starting out in a T140 Chev and moving onto the T142. McNicol, Driver and Van Rooyen all drove the newer T142.

Willie Ferguson also had a stab at the Lola T142

I have a nice story about a certain Surtees TS5 F5000. Ex Jackie Pretorius, than raced by Spencer Schultz. An uncle of mine was his mechanic in those days.I was still in Primary school when I used to go with him to the races.I found an article in the Autosport magazine 2004 about this car being restored in the UK for a private collector by Terry Hoyle racing.
I was surprised to see the pictures of the car.they were trying to get more history about the cars racing days in SA.Well I still have all the original black and white negatives as well as lots of photo's my uncle gave me.

I sent an e-mail to Terry Hoyle Racing and they were amazed at all the info I had. I then had all the negatives transfered to digital and loaded to cd which I sent to them. The car was in the Wynns Livery. They puplishem my article in the Autosprot Magazine. The next thing the owner of the car contacts me from the UK saying that he knew me from my Tarlton days as a marshall in the late 80's.The owner turned out to be ex Smith Wheels Anthony Smith who moved to the UK in the 90's.He is now the CEO of Wolfrace Wheels.

I lost touch with my uncle in the 80's and amazingly Anthony managed to find him in the UK as he also had lots of info regarding the car.
I have kept in contact with Anthony and he has kept updating me with the restoration of the car.

I have added some pics. I will also scan the article from Autosport and post it up later.Anyone who reads Classic Cars in Action might have seen the article Anthony sent to them.It had a pic of the car restored.Must have been around late 2006
