Dodge Challenger Drag-car build.
Re: Dodge Challenger Drag-car build.
Anyone know what happened to "Irritation", that wheelstanding Sapphire in the second photo? It was that uncle with that car that introduced me to fast v8s and drag racing!

Haha yeah I remember all those folks VERY well. You see, that gorgeous daughter was my brother's girlfriend at the time. I really want to know what happened to the Coetzee family's cars as well. Fond memories I tell you...

Okay, lets get back on track.
Rebuilt the powerglide for the third time and I'm sure the last.
We used the stock tail housing to act as a kind of "fuse" in case we find more problems later. This decision paid off later.

Re: Dodge Challenger Drag-car build.
With the transmission sorted, the car really raced well with consistant times. For the year end Speed and Sound jamboree we decided to activate the NOS.
This is how we fitted the bottle. I can open and close the bottle whilst sitting in the seat stapped up. The heater blanket is critical to heat the bottle to get the correct bottle pressure. (950 -1000psi)
This how we mounted the pressure guage and the inline NOS filter. (the red button on the shifter is my line lock.)

Re: Dodge Challenger Drag-car build.
how much does it cost to fill a nitrous bottle? And how much are you using per pass?
Re: Dodge Challenger Drag-car build.
I'm not exactly sure on the cost, as our NOS and fuel gets sponsored, but I think Sybie Coetzee and Gavin Wilkins refills a 10lbs bottle for under R500.00shoedoos wrote:how much does it cost to fill a nitrous bottle? And how much are you using per pass?
We use a bottle on only 4 runs spraying 150 hp, and then replace. The bottle is then not empty, but it is not worth running out of NOS halfway down the track. We take a scale to the track to confirm the weight of the NOS.
