Hi Fi
I had not discovered Killarney when Peter Gough drove the Meissner Mk1 Cortina for the 1st time.
I remember reading about the spin in Hoals, but from memory it was put down to the oil pump/or filter unscrewing and that he actually spun in his own oil. That's why he did not continue in the race.
But this might have been a different race.
It happened more than 40 years ago and the memory is a bit vague.
Race meetings to remember......

That meeting when Roy Pierpoint brought his Falcon to SA to challenge Basil Van Rooyen in his Mustang was something to remember. He was soundly beaten by Van Rooyen both at Kyalami and in a strong drizzle at Killarney.

Another race that sticks out in my memory is the 1966 Cape Three Hour race. It was the race in which the Malcolm Guthrie/Mike Hailwood Ford GT 40 came to a rest on the exit of Malmesbury Bend in flames. I was standing at the fence watching the driver scramble out while the car was burning and the marshals trying to put out the fire.

Well I really feel like a laaitjie reading this thread, nevetheless for me the most memorable races was I think in 2004, the "Can Am", Z181 and A2, all comming down the main straight at Killarney, one after each other, to see these cars on track at the same time was truly amazing.
Another was a WestBank Modified race when Johan Fourie smashed into the wall right in front of where we were sitting....
